Bio
Dr. Rahul Mahajan is an Additional Professor in the Department of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India, with a specialization in Pediatric Dermatology.
An internationally recognized expert in pediatric dermatology and genodermatoses, Dr. Mahajan has led pioneering research in congenital ichthyosis and epidermolysis bullosa (EB), especially in resource-constrained settings. His work has been instrumental in setting up next-generation sequencing platforms for EB and initiating early-phase clinical trials in rare skin disorders. His contributions include novel therapeutic explorations such as topical gentamicin in RDEB and IL-17 inhibitors in ichthyosis.
Dr. Mahajan has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles and is actively involved in scientific publishing as Deputy Editor of the Indian Dermatology Online Journal and Co-Editor of the ISPD Bulletin. He also serves on the editorial board of the Indian Journal of Pediatric Dermatology.
He has received multiple national accolades, including the IADVL Young Dermatologist Award (2024), and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh). He currently coordinates the Special Interest Group on Pediatric Dermatology under IADVL and has contributed to national guideline development in cutaneous tuberculosis and autoimmune blistering diseases.
